Know before you go

If you are a foreign national and plan on traveling to Zambia for tourism, business, or other reasons, you will need a visa to enter the country. Zambia has visa requirements in place for most foreign visitors, apart from those from countries that have established visa exemption agreements with Zambia . 

E-Visa

Zambia has introduced an electronic visa system for travelers who want to visit the country. Depending on the needs of the traveler and the purpose of the trip, travelers should apply to a different type of visa. All the application process can be done online and the process can take around one week for being approved.

Tourist Visa

Tourist visas are available for citizens of most countries. They are valid up to 90 days and, depending of the traveler needs, can be obtained with multiple entries

With this visa, you can:

  • Stay in Zambia for up to 3 months at a time. It is possible to extend your visa once you arrive to Zambia.

  • Enjoy a holidays.

  • Visit your family or friends.

  • Attend cultural events.

  • Meet other private purposes.

To be eligible for this visa, you must:

  • Have a valid passport: The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry into Zambia.

  • Recent passport-size photograph.

  • Copy of the passport.

  • Letter of introduction on letterhead to the Director-General of Immigration.

  • Flight receipt with the dates of departure from the country.

 

Business Visa

This visa, valid for 90 days, allowing a maximum stay of 90 days in the country. The reason for applying for this visa must be for business or commercial agreements. With this visa, it is not possible to work in the country.

With this visa you can:

  • Attend business or comercial agreements.

To be elegible for this visa you must: 

  • Meet the same requirements for a Tourist visa.

  • Certified photocopies of the certificate of incorporation.

Transit Visa

This visa is issued to a foreign citizen who is required to enter the country for transit purposes. It is valid for a maximum stay of 7 days.

With this visa, you can:

  • You can travel to another country with a brief layover in Zambia for transit purposes only.

To be eligible for this visa, you must:

  • Meet the same requirements for a Tourist visa.

  • Flight receipt with the dates of departure from the country, and the final destination of our trip.

KAZA Univisa

The KAZA UniVisa is a single visa that allows visitors to travel to both Zambia and Zimbabwe multiple times. The visa is valid for up to 30 days in any given period of 12 months, as long as the holder remains within Zambia and Zimbabwe. It also covers those who visit Botswana for day-trips through Kazungula Borders.

The KAZA Univisa can only be used and is only available at the following airports in Zimbabwe and Zambia:

Zimbabwe

  • Harare International Airport

  • Victoria Falls

  • International Airport

  • Victoria Falls Border (with Zambia)

  • Kazungula Border (with Botswana)

Zambia

  • Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (Lusaka)

  • Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (Livingstone)

  • Victoria Falls Border (with Zimbabwe)

  • Kazungula Border (with Botswana)

COVID-19 Requirements

Zambia has lifted all COVID-19 travel related restrictions for entry, effective March 21, 2023. This means that there is no longer a requirement to show proof of vaccination, recovery, or testing against COVID-19.

However, there are still some health measures in place at points of entry. All travelers will be required to undergo a health screening, which may include a temperature check and a brief interview.
